ESTATE LIVING – Wildlife

Silver Lakes was expanded in 2001 when Willow Acres extensions 3 and 4 (more commonly known as Silver Lakes Nature Reserve) were incorporated into the existing Silver Lakes (an addition of 77.84 hectares).
The focal points of the nature reserve include indigenous vegetation, historical sites, a natural vlei and free-roaming game such as blesbuck, nyala, impala and duiker. A well-marked nature trail and game viewing platform are also located in this area. All the residential stands (approximately 180) were carefully positioned to ensure optimal views and privacy.
The game can be regularly observed at the dam where they congregate to quietly graze and drink. The wildlife has become accustomed to sharing their environment with humans and are relatively tame. Each new season brings with it the birth of fowls who can be seen taking their first uneasy steps into a new world.
The dam in the nature reserve and the numerous dams and lakes on the golf course are gathering points for a wide variety of bird species including the goliath heron and striped kingfisher. The number of birds observed in Silver Lakes currently stands at over 170 different species.
The bushveld experience paired with a championship 18 hole golf course ensures that Silver Lakes remains an unique residential Estate.
